st170 flywheel problem when cranking
Hi guys hope someone can help,
I have a st170 and last year brought a second have spec stage 3 flywheel and clutch off of a good friend of mine, when fitted and wile cranking it would make a loud wining noise and sometimes not engage at all.
thinking it was the flywheel ..(witch in the end killed the starter)..I got in touch with spec and order a new clutch and flywheel set up brand new with a new starter and first turn of the key same noise, after removing the starter its clear to see the ring gear has been touching the centre of the starter dog pushing against it and not just the teeth
its a 03 reg and have heard they changed the flywheel surface area from 230mm to 240mm but cant really get a straight answer to weather the actual flywheel size is the same or not, I was never asked or had a option of size when buying it, and after contacting spec they say they've never had any problems in all the years selling them
that said there is a thread on here from a guy with the same problem but he hasn't been on in nearly a year lol
if anyone can shed some light on the hole flywheel sizes thing it would be much appreciated, the cars supercharged so a right bitch to get the starter out
many thanks lewis.
