Default sierra pinto automatic?

got a 75% built kit car at work and it has the 2ltr pinto with auto box built in got it running finally but it wont change gear can get Drive and Reverse but when in drive it wont change up

question is what changes the gears ?

there is a breather type pipe that runs from the box to the front of the engine over the rocker cover and is just hanging there cant find where to plug it in

will try get a picture up but any help will be smashing

Auto's are very complex.

On older boxes it is the mechanics, i.e the 'torque converter' amongst other things on newer cars it is part electronic.

I suspect it may be something wrong with the box itself?

it may be as simple as the bit that moves through the gears not being set up properly
