wierd temp gauge

wierd temp gauge
mk6 gti, my temp gauge is wierd. switch ignition on goes right to the top, start engine drops back to bottom and refuses to move, changed the sensors and the clocks and still the same. even tried running a direct feed from gauge to clocks and nothing. any ideas on this as i hate not having a temp gauge
