hydrolic lifter problems
hi all i purchased a f reg rs turbo cabby conversion, when i purchased the car on the right side of the block if looking at it from under bonnet, sorry for lame description there is a very noisey tapping noise {i no thease are sometimes a bit tappy} but this is excessive , the prevoius owner said he changed the hydrolic lifters a week ago. i did find out he put the wrong oil in which i have now replaced. my question is the tapping noise is still there and sometimes goes quieter but not for long before it returns also the oil light flickers on tick over when warm, the car is running 221bhp and has had a kent cvh35 cam fitted but is running on the orignal ford spec lifters and valve springs ect and the car is still running the standard oil pump. i am wondering if i need to up grade the lifters and springs ect, and the oil pump to clear the problem or is the car ok running with the orignal spec lifters and standard oil pump.
i hope some one can help thanks

First of all the oil light is a really worry'ing problem. I struggled with a lot of problems on my car. The thing that worked best for me is buying the following
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MECHANICS-...item5d446ad463
You can fit it easy on your car (pretty sure it fits the Original hole of the pressure sensor), but now you can read it out at different rpms
If you have low oil pressure don't drive it else you can bin the whole engine later on. Get your self one of these. Take somebody with you that can read out the gauge while you keep an eye on traffic and jump from idle to 2000;3000;4000 and post it here.
I believe at 3000 you need 2.8 bar and idle would be nice above 1 bar, but i think till 0.8 would be ok.
Then search further for the noise!

thanks for the advice , to be a bit more accurate the light only comes on imtermitally soon as u touch the throttle it goes , i was going to try a new pressure switch , and replace the lifters {personal opinion last owner didnt have a clue} as i found underneath bottom engine mount had bolts loose and missing, so slowly going through making sure its all tight before i do drive it , thanks for advice all
Touching the throttle will make it go away as increasing the revs will build the oil pressure.
The fact that the oil light is flickering means there is a problem somewhere. Might be worth trying a new pressure switch and oil pump and see if the problem persists.
If you are replacing the lifters I believe it is recommended that you replace the cam as well.

If you try a new pressure switch you still will be able to destroy your block. If you have one bar oil pressure but never get higher then that it will look ok for your pressure switch but the engine will die soon. Really don't be a fool and check pressure over whole rpm range. The cost isn't even that high!! For 26 pound you should check your base first, an engine with oil pressure. If you find out later its oil press you can trow away your "nnew" lifters too

yes it was, i heard the previous owner before the guy in cleethorpes bought it timed it up wrong, when i purchased the car it was at a mates of his garage who was a true ford petrol head lol, he took the head off had all pressure tested flushed the system through replaced what needed replacing, but there was a slight tapping noise still there, but the reply i got from the owner stated he put 5w 30 oil init, so i researched the forum got it to my dads garage put the correct oil in and the tapping went quieter but still there. so i was gonna replace the lifters as in my personal opnion i think thats why it started to tap again. the owner of the garage stated if i put new set of lifters in the car and a new oil pump it will be fine. when i drained the oil there was no swarff in there what so eva . and it runs fine other than the slight noise from a lifter. why would you want the sellers details may i ask when i have the car now
