Default puma indicators all flash - no reason

No reason that I know of at least.

Just bought this lovely looking car, cleaned it, painted the odd bits, serviced it and now that I have figured (thanks to this forum) out how to fix the abs, and tc warning light, ANOTHER electrical problem raises its ugly head.

After locking the car (whether by fob or key) all the indicators flash EDIT: continuously. Turning ignition on and even running the car around didn't fix it.

I haven't a clue. All fuses check out.

Anyone been there and done it?

Thanks as usual.
Tim

Am I missing something here? They are supposed to flash when you lock the car and unlock.

Yes, You are missing the vital bit of info that I stupidly didn't mention:

They flash continuously. Start engine and still flash. Hit hazard button and get a quadruple flash!

Weird. Lock problem, alarm problem? Beats me.

Could be the security module iirc. I think it's found in the drivers footwell. Behind the right handside plastic. I could be mistaken though

its the alarm not going off

as in the alarm has been set off due to the key not workign in the lock somewhere so the indicators flash to say the alarm is going off, even though you can stll start the car as you have the correct key

they will have disabled the siren/horn but other than that it's just a case of removing the door cards and making sure the alarm switches on the door locks either side have been connected up properly

Reconnect the horn for the alarm (it's in the boot behind the trim panel drivers side (o/s)), then press the bonnet switch on /off a few times till you get a 'pip' this puts the Perimeter alarm in 'self test' mode - then go round all the doors open/close should get a 'pip' do the same with key barrel switches, should get a 'pip' when locking AND unlocking and the bonnet/rear hatch.

If any of them don't 'pip' you have an ajar or lock switch fault.

Saves stripping out doors/panels you don't need to.

Is there not the security module in the drivers footwell on the puma? It usually has a reset on it. Just thinking to clear the system for a fresh search

Depends on year, some have a seperate module, some are part of the GEM.

Was not aware of a reset!

The test I have described above is how I would start to diagnose the fault.

I'm sure they had a small button to reset. I could be getting confused though

Had this on our sportka before but only when it rained,
It was the alarm switch plunger under the bonnet, connections were all green and wet!
Might be worth a look, I don't know how similar the two cars are in that respect??

A good percentage of alarm faults on Fords are the bonnet switches.

Can just unplug them and bridge the terminals with a paper clip to confirm a fault.

To tell you the truth I've just remembered this happening on the Black I had. I pressed the plunger a few times and it was sweet.
Can't believe I forgot a simple fix. It was 2 year ago though

thanks all.
Raining today, MOT re-scheduled for next week so I have a few evenings to tinker.
Will try to get my hands on a manual first.
Cheers
