Timing Belt Replacement, Crankshaft Damper Issue
I've just replaced the water pump and timing belt on my 2002 2.0 SPI Escort. The belt looks to be positioned correctly, and I can rotate the engine, but as soon as I begin tightening the crankshaft damper bolt, the engine will not turn at all. Even with the damper in place, I can turn the crank/cam so long as the damper bolt is only hand tightened. I did remove the timing belt drive gear from the crankshaft to gain more room for the water pump replacement. It slid off easily, but needed to be hammered back on (with a wooden dowl). Could this be the problem?
