Default air conditioning

HELP

I have a 2000 Focus TDDI LX. when I switch on the AIR CON, the little green light comes on but nothing happens. I have found the relevant relay in the fuse box and it does not appear to be energised. If I remove the relay and short out the relevant terminals, I can hear the compressor solenoid engage but still the air from the vents is not cold. Does anybody know if there is an interlock which prevents the compressor engaging if there is low gas pressure?

Any suggestions??

the question is, why is the system low on gas?

they do leak a certain amount over time, but it shouldn't be that much. no point just filling it again, find the leak first. also, how much oil have you lost? does that need topping up too? a professional company will see you right on these points, a bodger will just vacuum the system down and then fill it with gas. be careful with who you use, but one that's recomended should be good.

Cumbria Transmissions want £50.00 for the job. £25.00 to leak check and another £25.00 to re-gas. Doesn't sound to bad to me. what does anybody else think?

Cheers
