Default Idle Control Valve at fault???

I am trying to fix the mother in laws Escort. It is an N reg, LX. Not sure what engine size. Gutless anyway.

It seems to have problems with the idle control valve. Horrible idling etc. Have removed it and cleaned it out with carb cleaner. Was already clean. AA had already cleaned it recently. Could it be the ICV is dead.

I am not a Ford man, so don't know what the regular problems are. Any tips from anyone??

LX? Is it the Brazilian or the American Escort LX?

yer regardles of how clean it is, if its buggered its buggered. before going out and forkin out for a new one just check theres no air leaks anywhere and if your running a carb check the carb gasket isnt leaking as these kinda things can give off similar idle probs

Would these leaks be enough to be felt by just holding hand next to the carb gasket al the way round. Will do this. SOunds like a new valve is needed though.

Cheers

its not really the best way to check. if i remember correctly a new gasket only costs 80p anyway so its worth trying anyway.

Default idel problems

If it is a 1.4cvh with efi injection they all have lack of power and idel problems! I would change idel speed control valve and check engine breathers are not blocked !

if its a 1400 cvh it is most likely the breather canister on the drivers side, top of the engine (its joined to the rocker cover via a short hose), this breather often fails causing an internal air leak, there not dear so try replacing it
