Default Diff men do you know

I'm wanting to remove the nut from a diff pinion I have. I have a 3/4 drive set of sockets but unfortunately don't reach so I need a long reach 12 sided socket. Can anybody tell me what size I need I assume its in around 38,40?

Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Adam

Ok got a socket off ebay cut it and lengthened it because I couldn't get a long reach 12 sided
Before I start I need to know a few more things.

What torque setting do I crank it up to? Or how do you know how tight to go?
And where will I get a collapsible washer?

I got sorted yesterday folks. Thanks for all the help. I jammed a bolt on one of the pinion gears to the casing and spun the nut off with an air gun. Was very simple. Have the diff in my car and it is working 100% I will post up a wee pic of the long socket I made
It's just a 3/4 drive socket cut and extended with a bit of piping I couldn't get my hands on a 12 sided long socket
