Default Problem with wipers, Focus ST170

Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

When I press the wiper stalk down to operate the wipers for 1 wipe if i let go of the stalk the wipers stop. I would of thought that these would automatically finish off the action.

Also i've noticed that if you put the wipers on the first setting if you return the stalk back to off the wipers stop in the middle of the screen. Are these problems related?

Is this a dodgy wiper relay or something more sinister?

All help and advised is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Relay in the fusebox behind the glovebox. Replacement solved the problem on our old Focus and it is so common that Ford keep the relay on the shelf

There should be a diagram on back of glovebox

Does this apply to older cars too?

My series 2 refuses to park sometimes. Intermittent function is intermittently faulty.

I assumed it was the motor worn inside.

Spoke to Ford and they wanted £26.99 for the relay and Brand new ones on eBay are still over £20.

Does anyone have a spare one for sale? Does anyone know if there is somewhere on the forum that sell spares?

Done some digging and this is the one i need:

Part number on relay – 6X4T 14B192 AA
Ford Finis Number- 1552133

Update: Bought a relay from ebay swapped it over ans still the same problem. The relay i changed is pictured below as R19.

Anyone else know if there is another relay that might need changing or could it be the wiper stalk? Thanks

My money would be on the motor mechanism. It should have a little switch inside it that tells it that it's at its stop position.

Finally got this sorted! The breakers sent over 2 relays which must of been the rear and front from another Focus. I swapped both of these over with out thinking and still had the same problem.

I then changed the front one with the original rear wiper relay and all good!!

Thank you everyone for your help and advice!
