Hi guys, just got a 5dr mk1 focus and the central locking doesn't work. I changed the battery in the key and its still the same. When I press the buttons nothing happens, but if I put they key in the door an turn it, it electronically locks/unlocks all the doors fine. Anyone got any suggestions? Maybe a fuse somewhere? Or a wire burnt out?

Sounds like you need to try and recode the remote. Turn ignition on to position 2 and off about 4times or until a beep is heard. When you hear the beep Press any button on the remote then turn ignition off. Back on and off again and try it. If that doesn't work try getting the remote tested but it could be it requires a new remote fob. Hope this helps

why would the model make a difference?

 

Your is an LX, Zetec is a different model

CL does not have remote central locking, hence I wondered if someone tried to add it.

If you look in the handbook there is instructions to pair the key (assuming it works), it's something like turn the ignition on/off several times quickly to put the ECU into "learning mode".

check the fuses mate they are behind the glove box its easy to get at open the glove box
and at the side there are two lugs push them in and the box will drop down undo the fuse box (2X10mm nuts the fuse your after is number 63 its 20 amp and yellow (its on the rear of the fuse box mate)

 

Hi, I know it is an LX i meant it was zetec engined and ok. i tried reprogramming the key and it didnt work

 

The fact the CL works means this is fine.

OP, you might want to verify the remote is transmitting, if your good with electronics you can verify the operation of the switches etc, but to see if it's actually sending a signal is a little harder.

Just verify power is present at various points on the PCB, tbh you really need to be conversant with circuit boards etc so you know where to look, it just can disperse the theory of a bad battery connection etc, and that the switches have continuity.

I would say the remote is more likely at fault than anything else.
