Default starter motors

hi folks i am new to this forum got a problem which i think someone on here will know the answer im building a kit car with a ford ohv mk2 escort engine and box and have hit a problem. the pre engaged starter that come with it wont fit as the chassie fowls the solenoid on the starter so cant get it in .a way round it is to either cut and weld the chassie so it can go in or i thought a mk1 escort starter without the solenoid which would fit in no problem. but i need your help on that one will a mk1 starter bolt straight on and work or is the bolt holes different or the teeth .the pre engaged one has 3 bolts and i know the mk1 starter only has 2 any help would be very much appreciated thanks regards paul

not sure what u mean fella but the inertia starter ie without solenoid for a mk1 escort is 10 tooth 3 plain bolt holes, so is the pre- engaged ,the problem u have is the leading edge of the ring gear is on the front for pre-engaged on the back for inertia ie where the pinion engages it will work but the pinions wont last
