this may sound like a daft question !
but is it possible to remap a std non pats zetec ecu ?
if so how ?

It depends on what you mean by 'remap'. If you mean reprogramming the original eprom then it can be done but I'm only aware of two people who have ever done this. If you mean change the calibration data then yes it can be done and the revised calibration is usually programmed into a J3 chip adapter.

thanks for your reply sailor bob !
all iwant to be able to do is change the timing as i want to run more advance.
i should probably point out that the ecu on this vehicle is only used for the coil pack as i have carbs fitted .
i really would like to be able to do this my self but dont know where to start.

I'm not aware of any publicly available definitions for the GSBB0 strategy (which is what the DEEP ecu uses).

it may be possible to simply move the position of the crank sensor (mechanically)

It would be easier to install a megajolt to control the ignition tbh.
