2wd Cossies in std out of the factory trim had central gudgeon pins on the pistons so the yslap when cold.... the latter 4wd pistons had an offset gudgeon pin so stopped the slap...

as said above the only way to repair it WOULD be to use 4x4 pistons

u SURE its not the cam followers your hearing as they slowly fill up of oil(due to age/mileage) maybe lasting up to a few minutes rather than it being piston slap from your 4x4!

No it's not the cam followers, that's another sound, my cousin has got that sound from the cam followers.
Only with a cold engine for 1 or 2 minutes, no problem for me, no oil use.

Me too Wedgie, I'm glad im not the only one now

I had my tappets changed for new ones (From Fords - Expensive!!!) and i've still got it. Mines an early 4x4 Red top engine without the cat.

Just learned to live with it now, I just let it warm up/cool down properly and change the oil every 3k.

Default slap

pistons are alloy, block is steel as they expand at a different rate there has to bee more tollerance, as the piston warms up and expands more than the block the slap should dissappear
