Default mk4 escort efi poor running

I did have a thread in the xr topics, but was advised to move it hear.

it the mk4 1990 efi with iscv on the inlet manifold, i've fitted a recon engine, so swapped all the working parts from my old engine over, tps, iscv, map etc except crank sensor. The car cuts out when braking, and idles horrible, done ecu re-learn, base idle setting, checked for leaks with brake cleaner but no better.
if i disconnect tps, the revs pick up a little, but idles better, replaced it, still the same.
Also the emission are better with the tps disconnected.
Co-2.66
co2-10.00
o2-5.5

With tps disconnected.

Changed iscv and coolant temp sensor, genuine ford Ł130, still no better, only does it when engines warm,
Any help would be great, apart from can of fuel and a match which people keep telling me to do

Now starting to hold back and back fire at constant speed and revs.
Read somewhere it could be coil pack or ecu. If the ecu was faulty, wouldn't that stop a code reader talking to it?

changed crank sensor, but didnt help. didnt think about plugs and leads because i swapped them from my old engine so was working fine, but couldn't hurt.
can't remember how many earth cables i took off, one on the lifting eye and one on the gearbox.

Took off earth cables cleaned them and rebolted up, no difference. Changed some other parts as well, but still the same.
Changed ecu,air temp and coolant temp sensor, crank, map, tps, plugs, leads, coil and iscv and checked timing. So pretty much changed everything, so think it's a trip to buy a new car tomorrow

Brought a new fiesta in the end, but now winters over, really want to get the old 3i cab back on the road did summer.
I got it running a little better with a new co adjuster, so that was causing some of the problem, but still not 100% right, but runs ok with the tps disconnected,
Why won't my code reader pick up any faults with any sensors though?
