Mk4 Cabby Engine replacement
hi guys, wonder i you can give me some advice.
I bought a 1990 MK4 XR3i cabriolet which someone has fitted a 1.4 lump into. I have a replacement xr3i engine/gearbox to go in but was wondering
if it's possible to just replace the engine leaving the old gearbox/drivehafts in place or do i need to remove engine/box complete as it says in the haynes manual
Also if the engine and gearbox does need to come out complete can it be removed from the top or does it have to be dropped from under the car as Haynes recommend??
thanks in advance for any advice

I would swap engine and gear box together, so much easier, you would have to move gearbox anyway to get engine in,you would have to move this so much any way take out drive shafts aswell , just fit other engine and box, as for out top or bottom? have you a engine lift? if not, then out the bottom. jack up high on good axle stands. all it depend on is what tools and room you have.piece of piss once every things out of engine bay hope this helps
