Default Newbie with focus problems

Hi all,

Been a ford driver for many years, right from the days of the first MKIII escort. Personally have a mondeo, but just picked up a nice cheap little Focus estate for the wife, (expecting a little one and needed something bigger than her fiesta), but we have a couple of issues.

First off, the speedo did not work and the engine kept stalling, fixed that with a new speed sensor.

now the main problem we have is a rumbling / vibration on the car when at anything over about 35 mph. strangely, the noise is only there when turning to the left, it does not need to be turned hard to the left, just the slightest little bit off centre will do it, no noise when turning right. the car drives fine, does not pull either way, does not knock over bumps, just the real annoying rumbling noise. It was (wrongly) diagnosed as diff, so I have changed the gearbox, and clutch (figured I may as well when the box was off). there was some noise when we got it from the passenger side CV joint, so I have change the drive shaft assembly and wheel bearing on that side.

Any ideas on what this annoying noise could be are gratefully welcomed.

And lastly, not so important, but still annoying, is we dont have the radio code. I know its against the forum rules to give them on here, but how do I go about getting one? is it just a call to ford? will they charge for it?

Car info, 2000 X-plate focuse 1.8 Zetec estate.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

It may be worth getting the steering etc checked out, also is it defiantly from the front and not the back?

As to the radio code, yes, I can personally retrieve it, but can not do so due to the rules, the reason this rule is in place is for security, as obviously a thief could signup and ask for the codes and we would be "aiding and abetting" them.

So yes, you will need to contact Ford, it will cost you around £15 I would have thought, they should be able to do it via your registration number, where as I do them by S/N of the radio, so it saves you removing the head unit to retrieve this information at least

Thanks for the reply. I have checked the steering over, and cant find anything amiss. bearings at the top of the turrets seem good, cant find any play anywhere. wheel alignment is spot on. ( I have the tools to check that at home). I have tried swapping all the wheels temporarilly with a friends car just to elliminate that, but no difference.

The vibration is definately from the front. I was giving the car a good hard "thinking about" last night, and now wondering if it could be that odd little support bearing half way along the drivers side drive shaft. I think my next move will be to replace that shaft, support bearing and wheel bearing and see what happens.

I have sorted the radio code, found a website that you put in the serial number and it spits out the code (for free). I wont put details on here though out of respect for rules.
