Mk4 Escort Electric Window Problems
Evening all.
Need some help with electric windows on my Mk4 cabbie Escort.
Drivers stopped working recently and the passenger one has always been a bit temperamental! Took the motors apart and cleaned up today & greased the sliders.
Now, drivers side works fine now apart from the drivers side switch buttons that control the passenger window do not work at all and if i press the buttons on the passenger side switch the passenger window will only go down. Took the passenger motor back out and plugged it into the drivers side wiring and works-goes up & down.
Plugged back into passenger side wiring and still only goes down.
So i unplugged the wiring between the passenger door switch and the passenger motor and stuck the multimeter on the connections. I am getting 11.4v on both the up & down terminal when the passenger side switches are pressed but as soon as i re-connect the motor it only works one way. In the end i reversed the wires in the switch so the window will only go up so at least the car is secure. So it would seem that i have the correct power going to the motor but will only work one way when it is plugged back into the wiring loom on the passenger side but works both ways if plugged into the drivers loom!
Confused because I am.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

hi mate mk4 windows are notoriously crap, i had a similar prob with my passenger side not working at all and was only really resolved when my mate rewired it for me and we put a new motor in,
all i can think is your connection at the plug is crap,
good luck anyway mate i know i wasnt much help lol

No problems with central locking and have cleaned both the footwell earths.
Have tried two motors both tested before hand and no difference.
I am tempted to run new connection wires from drivers to passenger side.
