escort rs turbo wiring
Hi all spent all yesterday messing with the headache(erst),Basically the cd player that came with the car would not read cd's so I put an old jvc cd player in the car which has been playing up,it had a connection error, yester day I could not get it to work, theres 12v from the car wires so I belive its the stero harness, then I noticed a spark so I remove the stero cowling and made sure the stereo wires were fine upto were I could access,I then noticed the clock was lit up but no display, and the fag lighter wires were taped up,fuse 2 was blown and as soon as I put another in the fuse blew (was fine when I bought the car),so I used a multi meter,I put one to number 2 fuse socket and one to an earth and there was a circut,so i did the same with the fag lighter wires and there was a circut between live and earth, more messing arround and there was no circut to the fag lighter wires (didnt re check the fuse box as it was getting late)so there must be a problem,so basically im not sure what to do ie just re wire a new fag lighter wire (but would have no clock)or trace the wires to the fuse box and rewire it the proper way i am by no means an auto electrician but have basic knowledge of wiring and not sure what sort of job it would be re tracing the wires hoping to get some suggestions and what you would do next

Tbh id take the dash out it aint that hard.
Take steering wheel off, clocks and heater panal out bolts for dash and its out, make life alot easier and you will see the extent of the bodge more clearly and easier to fix!
As for fuel pipe just get hold of someone that is breaking one plenty about!

On the fuel filter pipe front i tried two different ones on my estate which both leaked so i just bought a braided steel one from a guy on eBay called rs custom hoses and that did the trick

thats what I have done,I might order the other pipe on the other side of the filter just to neaten it out, owned the car a few weeks and have driven it around 4 times lol,I cleaned all the connections and put a zetec front mount starter, and it seems to be starting off the key hot now,I have spent a few quid on it already usual case I suppose on a rst,Its got a new rubber rocker gasket and a new victor sump gasket which was around Ł20,ordered new 2mm 25 amp wire, which was Ł20,new cambelt kit inc water pump Ł52 which was trade price, new top boost hoose SH,2 bottom armsŁ46 trade price, car cover was Ł15,the guy I bought it off was like you might find one cheaper but it will need spending money on it and that seems to be all im doing, don't get me wrong mechanically it drives and boost perfect and has no rust in the usual places, just the usual niggles but this time im geting it tip top before I start using it,looking at the resto threads makes me wish I had half the knlowedge of some of the peep on here no doubt I'll have a new thread up soon thanks once again for the replys first time I have taken a dash out will be sunday

Its an old car remember thats probably had a hard life so expect a few problems! Regular maintenance and sort problems out soon as you find them and it should be fine!
When you do the dash as you unbolt a bolt/screw tape it to the dash where you took it from and easy to put back if its your first time doing it!

got everything off ready to unbolt the dash lastnight, traced the fag lighter wire and all was ok,so I just followed the stereo loom and OMG the live had stripped all its plastic coating and was just literally wire, for some reason it blew fuse 2 which was fag lighter, interior light, clock,I seemed to have 12v to radio with ignition on so I might put an inline fuse in just for saftey, the radio was bodged bad there was bridges from live to ignition live, connections were made with block connectors, the rest of the wiring looks in good condition,so Im gonna rewire the radio loom and and solder a proper double block connector,Had not been to the car in a week or so and it fired straight up and oil light ut in a second, where to spend money next lol thanks for the help guys but as said the dash must be one of the easiest ones to do,around five connectors and a handfull of bolts
