Default Erratic idling/stalling

Whilst crawling through London yesterday, the car randomly decided it doesn't like to idle, erratic at best. Most of the time it would just cut out.

Pulled over and had a look at things, disconnected the ISCV for test purposes and the engine wouldn't tick over at all, reconnect and then it was back to dogdy idling. If you held it with a touch of throttle it was fine. Checked a few connections etc, but no joy.

That was last night. Parked up all night and just forgot about it and it then drove all the way home to Bristol the next morning without a hitch lol.
I took off the control valve and cleaned it up and refitted it, still idling fine. I cleaned it up a few months back already, as the car had/has a tendancy to kangaroo occasionally.

Any suggestions? My finger is pointing towards the ISCV, but any tips will be helpful.

Car is a 2.9 V6 btw.

maybe not of any use to yourself but i had a M reg Merc C-class that did the exact same and after weeks of confusion and cutting out it turned out to be a leaky vacuum pipe .

Ok well I just went out to take the car out, but it will not tick over. As soon as it catches, it just dies/idles badly?

I think i'll have to get handy with the WD-40 to check for air leaks.

Update:

Fitted a new ISCV, but no change. Worth mentioning that the fault is becoming more regular - it seems to play up after around twenty minutes, so it's obviously heat related.

It has settled somewhat - it will idle at a lumpy 500RPM alot of the time. I do think I have an air leak though, but I have checked with a can of WD40 etc, since I can't set the base idle.

Ok well I fitted a brand new ISCV and did some more head scratching - I managed to corectly set the base idle. Things were looking promising for an hour or two, apart from a bit kangarooing at times, until the car decided it wants to idle at 2500RPM

If I disconnected control valve the revs dropped to it's base idle. Plug it back in and it shot back up. Basically it has a mind of its own. At the moment it's idling fine, which is making this problem all the more annoying. I've checked the hoses, tried spraying WD40 around areas etc but it didn't throw anything up.

I've cleaned the loom plugs with contact cleaner also.

I've now thrown the towel in on this bloody car.

Changed the ECU on mine and that helped, not sure if you have one! Nothing worse then this problem!
