Hello,
this is my first post here, and youst want to introduce myself
r
I´m Paul 23 jears old and live in germany, near Schweinfurt.
Im owning a 1987 Caterham with a Zetec in it.
this Zetec is the reason for this treat: .
https://passionford.com/forum/restor...reaking-3.html
I bought it one year ago...
I was not really happy with it, after some problems with the DTA, it runs with a new wideband Lambda sensor, but over 4000 rpm there was dark smoke from the exhaust and it needs VERY much oil.
after about 700 miles, a Big end bearing break down...
After the death of one big end bearings from my 2.1 Liter Silvertop
Zetec Race engine, I have bougth a new 2.0 l blacktop engine.
(at this time I don´t know that the engines are a lot more different
than youst the other colour of the tops....)
now is the question I have one brand new 2,0 black top engine and the
Parts from the Silver top engine:
Can i use parts from my silver top engine and put them in the black top engine?
the block is bored to 86,5mm and shows some wearing from the pistons.
the 86,5mm Accryalite Pistons looking OK, I have also New Piston rings here.
fully portet and with big valves prepared head is OK with 306 degree Kent cams
the Steel conrods 5.36 are OK (One is new)
the TITAN dry sump is OK, but I´m not really happy with it because the
fitting in the caterham is difficult and there is always the risk of
the Belt...
elektrik water pump
I don´t know what to do...
The Engine should have the limiter at 8200 rpm... is there any
solution for a wet sump system?
I also not really happy with the elektrik water pump and the
alternator fitting (which is one from a little Suzuki)
Maybe buying a other silver top head and bore it out? but does then
the crank and the crank bearings from the black top fitt?
I´m very lucky for any help.![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

First thing that is my suggest remove DTA from the car.
You sad that you had some problems with that, probably it is s40!? That maganement is half product, it is unstable and it is not even able to deliver every time same amout of fuel that is written. It calculates every 10th rev. Perfect for killing engine! I had also nothing else then problems with it.

Hi, thank´s for your answer.
it´s an S60 Pro and I think it´s working very well.
I have fitted a wideband lambda sensor and it was mapped by a specialist.
First the cam sensor was not fixed correct there was no air pressure sensor.... etc.
I have a exhaust temperature sensor, the temperatur was fine.
The main problem, I think was that the seller build a very nice engine but never runs it.
Yesterday I looked one more at the pistons and the head, i think the pistons had contact with the head.

maybe this is the reason the bearing is killed.
I will do some pics today.

did this engine have steel main cap conversion aswell? also what power did it make?
piston hitting head would have prob done the damage also check ring land for damage from hitting the head. Personally i would rebuild with a silvertop block.
