Default Undoing puma crankshaft pulley bolt...

Doing a cambelt on a ford puma but have come across a problem removing the crank pulley bolt. I know when it's all timed up the crank sits against the timing pin so doing the bolt up is not a problem but how do you undo it as when you turn the crank anticlockwise it just turns? I have another longer timing pin in the kit so is this used some how? Guessing I need to lock the crank completely to undo this pulley bolt?
Totally stuck now so if anyone has a clue?

Thanks in advance, Paul M

Put vehicle in 4the gear. Off clutch. Stand on brakes as hard as poss. This will hold the engine still.

DONT use the timing pin to hold the crank it will bend and will not hold.
Also do not use the cam locking tool to hold the cams when loosening the cam pully as that will snap the end of the cam off

No worries sp3no, does this apply when tightening the crank pulley too?

yes DO NOT use the locking pin to hold the crank while tightening the bolts, use an air gun to remove and refit the bolts, then torque the bolt up after locking the flywheel either with a prybar or make yourself a tool to bolt across two of the starter bolts and lock against the ring gear like i have made
if you do not do the crank bolt tight enough it will come loose and wreck your engine
also as above do not use the cam locking bar to hold cams while loosening pulleys as you will snap the end of the cams use a 21or 22 mm spanner on the correct location of the cam to hold them

Ok, well finished off the cambelt today and all is good so thanks guys.
Used the 4th gear and applying the brakes method with using an electric gun to get the pulley off in the end, and all went well.

Cheers Paul
