Someone try shed some light on this for me.
I have a clicking as I'm steering, mainly when I'm braking at the same time. Happens if I steer over 100° in either direction. It seems to be comming from the drivers side.
If I'm not braking then it dosen't usually happen, but usually when I'm slowing down and steering at the same time I get the click or crack noise?
It usually only happens the once, which is why I'm discounting the CV joints.
It's not a constant tick, tick when I move, it's just the one clunk or crack.
I recently had a new steering rack but it's been happening since before that.
I did fit new track rod ends though and I can't recall it happening before I fitted those?
Bailes.

And going back to the clikcing issue... is this normal?
Got some videos of the driveshafts on both sides. Seem to have a little play in them?
Drivers side...

Passengers side...

Other than that... no play or funny noises in any of the suspension.

Theres no noise standing still, only when I'm braking and turning heavilly.
The strut seems to move smoothly and no play in the strut either?
Springs are fine too?

your vids look normal to me
as for the clicking/clunking its hard to say but as it was there before the rack was done then at least you can rule out the rack.
it might be worth stripping your front brakes down and cleaning them up. just calliper off, pads out, discs off, clean up, regrease and refit. might just be something caught in them or you might spot something during the job. just a thought as you say it happens mostly when on the brakes.

Thats the next plan of action I think. Just need to get a 7mm allen key socket for my torque wrench. Last time I had them out I just did the slide bolts up as tight as I could with an allen key, and it I always worried if I'd overtightened them or not tightened them enough etc.
How much are new slide bolts from ford? Wondering if they're worth replacing?

no need to replace the slide bolts, they just need to be nipped up. if you are worried about them coming lose then use some thread lock.
when the subframe was off were all the ball joints checked??
i've just replaced my rack on my mk1 2l focus btw, well worth doing and not too bad a job 8)

Mechanic did it in the end, he just dropped the back of the subframe. Just had the car in the air and theres no play or funny noises anywhere when the steerings going from one lock to the other.
