Hi all I have a mk3 escort that has a mark 4 dash init how do I get the fuel gauge to read properly instaed of backwoods ie. Full is empty well not dead full just over half and full is way below empy ?? And help would b nice I belive its a mark 3 sender as well ? Would that make a difference ? And I have one of them computer things that works on and of but dont think wired in prop does anyone no how and where to wire these in ? Thanks for the replys in advance reece

 

You need to sender and gauge to match ie high to low each or low to high each, so either the gauge or sender needs changing to suit.

Sorry mate dnt understand wot u mean I've herd that you earth a wire or somit like tht and its fine but don't know which one ? Am I right in saying that !

 

The gauge has a switched feed, the earth is the sender unit, which is essentially a variable resistor, as said you need both to match but if reading in theory reversing the polarity will correct this, but DON'T take my word as this being the right thing to do, maybe need a compatible sender unit as well?

When you day one of them "Computer things", do you mean a graphic display module? "Shows a "birds eye" view of the car on a screen?) if so there is a ECU that controls them, usually all problems related to them are caused by bad earth's.

Has this been added, as far as this was only available on Sierra/Granada?

I mean one of them range computer things think they we're in s2 and orions ?? Not sure not long had me car already had to rebuild it lol

 

Oh rite a fuel computer, it depends on the fuel delivery in some cases, is it carb or FI, if it's a 1600i as your username suggests it would be the latter?

It is a rs 1600i but rst converted can't understand any of the wiring on the bloody thing but I love it to bits already and I've only had it a few weeks lol

 

Use a mk4 tank with the correct sender
