Idle control valve or quite likely a vacuum leak somewhere. Check all vacuum hoses for splits.

i think you will find the clutch is shaged you can test this by putting car in 3rd gear or 4th if hand brake is shit pull hand brake up as far as will go try to slip clutch with quite a bit of revs but not to much if clutch is good it will stall if it revs its arss of 200 quid should see you rite in most garages with new clutch

i'll have a look probs tomoz i don't think the clutch is shagged as it's not noticeable i'll see tho u know these female drivers it only revs hard when she puts her foot on the clutch and that will shag the clutch eventually. the car has only done 40,000 on a t plate sooo could be needing it's first clutch

if the clutch is depressed when its reving it will not affect the condition of the clutch at all. sounds like its the idal speed control valve. what year is the car?

Does it do the same in neutral as when the clutch is disengaged?
I can only guess its an air leak somewhere on the engine side of the throttle body or the throttle is not closing properly.
The revs can't climb without extra air getting in, that's my theory
