My Aircon only works at blower setting 1 (2002 mondeo 1.8 petrol). Any ideas why?

what do you mean "only works at setting 1"?

you mean the fan in the blower or the air con stops working after pos 1?

 

Yes. The Fan continues to operate thru settings 2 - max, but the aircon is only operates at 1, so on a warm day I am constantly flicking down to 1 to get that distinctive 'bite' an up again. I does blow cool air, but on a hot day its nowhere like conditioned air.

So in terms of the fist answer, yes I believe the fan is working - unless aircon and cool air have seperate fans.

 

Sounds like control unit failure.

Does the light turn off then after setting 1? Sure it doesn't just need a regas? The engine cooling fan will run all the time when a/c is on.
