Default 2001 focus lighter socket probs

Hey guys, 2001 ford focus tddi. I got a problem with my lighter socket. Basically it keeps blowing fuses, i put the 15 amp fuse in and it keeps blowing everytime i plug the lighter or phone charger in, the socket is really dirty and caked up with shit so just wondering if it could be that?? any ideas??

A short or too much resistance somewhere.

It's going to be a short, crud at the bottom of the socket can do this, the bottom contains the live pin, the actual inner casing is the ground, perhaps when you are pushing the connector in it's 'making' the short somehow?
