since putting my stg 3 chip in and doing the head gasket on my big turbo escos, now when the car is warm it revs at around 2K with the ISCV connected - when u go to start the car you can hear it click click as it pules and starts fine, ive set the base idle to 950 rpm with it disconnected, but as soon as it is plugged back in it revs up to 2K - the valve must be being told to open by the ecu - what should i check? everything else seems to be ok

i spoke to ahmed.....
turns out it could well be the ECT telling the ecu that it is still cold - i have had it dicconnected so might have got it not put back on correctly

no, the ect appears fine - he thinks it might me the KAM on the p8 which cant be cleared by unplugging the ecu - i need a sub loom from ford to clear the ecu faults - my chip did come out of another car so could be holding a fault from that car as mine was ok before i fiteed the chip.

The chip cannot hold a fault, that is done by the ecu.
If its fault induced, you will have a 4Krpm rev limiter now. Have you?
If not, check the TPS is correctly set and of course, plugged in
ENSURE teh throittle is closed and the cable isnt overtensioned etc.

ah, stu,
what resistance should the tps be set to for idle? i have had it off and put it back in (i thought ) the same place - it has elongated holes so i assume this is how its ajusted...

it was a little high, 0.76 volts, moved it round slightly so it is now 0.53 at idle. unfotunately it has still not cured it. once warm, it starts fine and idles correctly for about 30 secs, then the ISCV opens and stays open - speaking to ahmed today regarding clearing the KAM of the ecu.

i thought i'd try and set the TPS right in the middle of its elongated holes - this gave a reading of just over 0.2 VDC from pin 17 at the ecu to ground.
tried it - works a treat now,
cheers for the help guys.
ps, dont know how this might help other with the same problem if they have not been messing about with their TPS - ie was working before storage and is now messing about etc - only thing i can think is the ECT sensor faulty..?

Ive just put my engine together and wonder if its possible to check the tps adjustment before the engine goes in ! They are a pain to adjust normally but mine is worse , a 500 plenum , impossible to get your hand round .!

i know what u mean - it is almost imposible to change once fitted - i ended up (on a 4x4 throttle body) removing the throttle body , only 4 bolts and the intake pipe. this might be the easiest way on your aswell, but i think on a 2wd red tps you need to set it so the resistance is infinate at idle.
