Im trying to get my head round how the clutch ratchet works on my 2wd saff.
Iv had the gearbox out a few times, and finally decided to fit a new clutch cable as the original one was fraid. Since fitting the new cable, im getting a loud click every now and again from the pedal area in the car. Im assuming its just the cable stretching. The clutch operates fine, pedals a bit higher than the brake and accelerator, but its always been like that.
When I lift the clutch pedal and push ratchet towards the bulk head it springs back to where it was before. I cant feel a definative release, when i pull the pedal up. Im assuming if the rachet is broken or worn, i will start to get slack in the pedal more and more?
Am i right in thinking that if the ratchet is doing its job, i shouldnt be able to pull the cable at the gearbox end with the pedal in its normal position?
Any help appreciated

20K+ Super Poster.
To release the ratchet adjuster you need to lift the pedal, AND push the quadrant(adjuster) forwards to disengage.
It sounds as though it is working as it should from the above, and no you won't be able to pull it from the box end, as the spring takes up the slack in the cable.
A loud click with a new cable is just taking all the stretch out of the new cable, you'll know when it's buggered as the pedal will just hit the floor when you press it!!

It clicks/cracks when you release the clutch pedal and not when depressing it. The clutch operates fine, theres a little play intially, id say about 10-15mm. I will worry about it when the pedal operation fails.
