Default Help needed! Timing Belt Gone

Right.. i need some opinions on the head ache ive got just now.

Ive got a 02 plate 2ltr Focus with just over 69k miles and unfortunately it seems the timing belt had either snapped or slipped and obviously caused a fair bit of damage.
The extent of the damage isnt clear at the moment but the garage expects the majority of the valves to be bent etc.

So to repair that, they estimate around £700, mainly for the labour to get it head off, inspect it, and get it all sorted etc.
Just wondering if it would be a better/cheaper idea to try find a good bare engine to replace it?

PS DIY is probably not an option as not very mechanically minded.

Your thoughts/opinions much appreciated,
Thanks

i guarantee it will smoke like fuck after the heads been off unless they change the piston rings also for some reason these engines just dont like being opened up and disturbed, i have experienced this twice now so just change them automatically now wheneve i open one up, in response to your question i would repair the engine that is currently in the car as that engine will be like new when finished with and for around £700 you are getting good value for money really

well if the engine is already opened i d take a look at the bore if it is still in good condition i would fix the engine cause it s good value for money like botters said and you would know what you have when you buy a bare engine it s a closed box it might be good but it might be a disaster waiting to happen

Cheers for the replies
They havent had time to get it opened up yet but I did tell them to go ahead with it.
As youve said, getting a 2nd hand engine is a risky business as it could be a dog, but also could be perfectly fine.
But i cant afford the risk haha, so id be aswell pay the extra to get it sorted and hopefully be better off.
Ill put an update once ive heard about the damage
