Probably slave cylinder gone , might be caused by release bearing seizing and spinning the piston , but whatever the cause the result is to replace the slave cylinder , and whilst there no matter what replace the clutch whilst there .

If you are not looking to increase power then a std one will do , heavy duty clutches are ok but in traffic they can be a real pain as they are too heavy , you will have legs like tree trunks

the slave cylinder fluid is shared with your brakes so dont let it run low or you will lose all your brakes. Slave cylinder is a gearbox out job so i would definately change the clutch and flywheel whilst your there. I have a stage 3 clutch in my st170 and it drives just as a standard clutch, i never noticed it being any heavier on the foot, well worth the money, cheaper than Ford original equipement too.

Clutchmasters in the States sell Clutch kits for the ST170 (SVT overthere) and they are rated from stage 1-5 i think, mine is middle of the road kevlar type thats rated to take probably twice as much power as standard. The kit was £600ish and came with Uprated friction plate and uprated cover, Lightweight flywheel and brand new slave cylinder. Ford will want £120+ for the slave cylinder, up to and over £500 for the flywheel and £300+ for the clutch plus fitting.
