Does anyone know how hard it is to change an inputshaft bearing on a T5 box, ie if it can be done without stripping the whole box. Just recently finished building my Saff but the gearbox is whining on idle and goes quiet when clutch depressed. the car drives mint, changes sweet as a nut and no popping out of gear or crunching.
Ideally wanted to try and drop the box and change the input shaft bearing and front and rear seals before spending £100's on a full rebuild.

Dead easy, take off front bearing carrier, this holds the taper part, this simply prises out, BEWARE there will be a shim behind it, so don't lose it, then the bearing can be pulled from the shaft, it's not a(stupidly) tight fit at all.
Make sure to install shim before new bearing, then use a good sealant around flange of bearing carrier, and also on the 4 bolts that hold the carrier on, make sure the "top" marking is observed on the bearing carrier when refitting.
