Default cosworth turbo

i have a 2wd sapphire cosworth away to rebuild the engine. also sorting the turbo. was wondering whats the best to do with the turbo. i currently have the standard turbo and wondered if it would be best to rebuild the standard turbo or replace it with another. the car currently runs a stage 1 with a possibility of upgrading to a stage 2 setup at a later date. any suggestions would be appreciated

A lot depends on budget and future long term plans.
A T34.48 equipped cossie on stage 3 is a hell of a road car imo, may want to consider upgrade to T34 ?, at the very least if rebuilding the turbo get a 360 bearing, will last much better.

or if you're not ready for a T34, try finding a good condition 4wd turbo and whack a 360 degree thrust bearing into it.

i was considering a t34. is it a simple straight swap from my standard 2wd turbo?

Yes but as with all things it's not simply a case of just fitting the components on, you would need a calibration to suit (Remap)

T34 is a cracking turbo!

What HG do you have?

Nope a new chip as that turbo will massively effect things like VE etc, HG= Head gasket.

If going for the larger turbo you are effectivly converting the car to a stage 3 as such you are now going to be producing more boost and we need to fuel for this extra boost, as such the fuel injectors will need upgrading to Bosch (Dark green 803's) or Siemens 55LB, you will also need to uprate the MAP sensor as the standard 2 BAR item will not be able to see the extra boost, all of the above will render your existing chip useless!

is it possible to use a t34 but run on on the same amount of boost as stage 1 therefore keepin the current chip, injectors etc. as im away to rebuild the engine and was hopin to up the power at a later stage. im fitting the car with a stud and nut conversion along with a group a head gasket

Yes unless you plan on running the boost a T34 can produce then there would be no point in uprating.

Tbh stage 2 isn't really heard of anymore, if it were me I would go for uprated injectors Bosch or Siemens 55LB a 3 BAR MAP sensor and yes the T3 will produce the boost, at the moment you are probably running around 15PSI, I should think you would see circa 310HP with this setup but more importantly more torque as well.

LOL classic bodge of wiring into switch, that switch will melt if that have used it alone, plus it's an automated system for a reason, so needs rewiring. It woulden't surprise me if they have used piddy wiring either!
