tail gate opens by itself
Hi
my focus 55 plate estate has started unlocking itself when standing still when unlocked and when driving...I mean it unlatches itself! sometimes when the tail gate is open, you can hear the lock noise opening and closing itself.
I have heard this is a common problem but no real cures given
Cheers

One known issue is water ingress through the NSR quarter glass , it drips down into the wiring and causes the connection to short out , one common occurance was when you pressed the brake pedal as this fed the solenoid .
Another problem is the microswitch itself going faulty under the rubber finger pad , or the rubber itself going hard and holding the switch in the closed position .
have a look and let us know

Probably unrelated but I have just had a 05 Focus in where the tailgate wouldn't release by the switch between the No plate lights but would open via key fob, It also lost its indicator and Hi beam tell tale lamps on the dash and finally the brake warning lamp and the interior lamp stayed on. The fault was that under the fuse box in the passenger foot well there is two multi plugs they both have the push clip and lock feature. It appears that the passengers feet can push these clips that dislodges the mutliplug from the fuse box causing the above problems. Its a bit of a silly idea as the clip unlocks going from back to front if it had been the other way you couldn't accidently dislodge them.

The finger pad near the number plate light was changed 18 months ago, perhaps its gone again! it will remain locked if locked via the keypad, but at anytime it would release itself from the latch if standing unlocked....thanks
Yes it is not connected but another possible cause , but i have to say the most likely cause of this one is the fact that the pollen filter is above the Fuse box ( CJB ) and the easiest way is to disconnect it to allow the fitment of the filter but it is a bit like the black hole of calcutta down there so sometimes these do not get re connected correctly
