Default clicking amal valve cosworth 2wd

Please help.I have a 1989 2wd Sapphire Cosworth.I`ve just replaced the engine and prior to starting it I hooked up a oil pressure gauge and disconnected the coil lead and proceded to crank the engine over to get the oil pressure up before starting. All good except for one thing. When I turn the key to ignition the amal valve makes just a single click, which I believe to be normal, but when I crank the engine over it starts to click and when I release the key back to ignition only it continues to click for a couple of seconds. It seems to be clicking for the time it takes the fuel system to pressurise and then stops.I`ve changed the ecu, still the same. The black/red wire gets a live supply for an instant when the ignition is turned on and The brown/yellow wire from the amal valve has a voltage that pulses during the time of cranking and untill the fuel system has pressurised after releasing the key.Can anyone help?

The amal gets it's power supply from the fuel pump relay, hence when you turn the ignition on the power is only there momentarily while the pump primes, when the engine is running it will have a permanent live feed to it. I would say the valve is faulty as this is is exactly what they do when faulty, that or you have a connection problem.

As with all the components the Amal is switched earth.

Forgot about that, so check this, readings can be obtained between pins 17 and 11 on ECU.
