Default "standard" wiring loom?

Scenario is this:
My S2 Has not got electric mirrors fitted
My Garage does have a set of electric mirrors and a switch in it.

Question is this:

Do all turbo's have the same wiring loom fitted as standard meaning I will be able to just find the right connectors lurking behind my dash somewhere, enabling me to plug in and go?

Should be ok, I cant imagine for one minute that it would be hard to wire up if it wasnt there

Hi ..

You need to check for the Electric mirror subloom. This connects up at each lower A-panel (conical connector) the RHS mirror (motors and heater) the LHS one, and the mirror control panel, clipped across the bulkhead with the other main wiring - The other sublooms (if fitted) are Heated screen, and Central Locking control. If the wiring isnt fitted, you can add quite easily. You have a heater wire (Black/yellow) Power (red) from fuse3 maybe, and an earth (brown) to connect up.
All this is pretty straightforward. The hardest thing, if you have to fit a subloom, is dragging it across through the clips, especially behind the steering column reinforcement. I think you'll find you dont have the wiring subloom fitted.
I fitted all of the above lot on my '86 van, along with a Turbo dashboard, and it's cool to get it all working. Tip .. Keep the A-panel connectors silicone-greased up ; )))

Good luck!

I am 99.9% certain the plugs will be there to add the extra wiring for the mirrors, They were an option when new and Ford wouldnt simply produce 2 looms 1 with the loom plugs (if people added them) and one without the loom plugs..

The reason they werent on your van loom is because they werent an option on the vans

You can use one from an Orion .. same parts.

It's one-piece . LHS A-Pillar plug to Control switch, then to RHS A-Pillar plug.
Make sure you have the connectors at the A-pillars, or you will need the two door jumpers (with rubber grommets/tubes) too. Trust me .. that one will connect to everything. I used Orion Ghia i parts for my van.

Damo is partly correct. We build cars now using many different variants .. They are built with different wiring with various features..... but we SERVICE with a reduced number ... as many as will allow features to be supported.
The new Focus has around 30 different wirings for drivers door! We service with about 10.

Mk 4 was done a bit different, using add-on wiring for most extra services such as Central-locking, Mirrors, etc

The reason I went to such lengths before is .. cos that is part of my job at Ford .. Wiring!

Your welcome ....
PM me if you get stuck .. When you rebuild, weld, maintain and upspec an '86
van, you get to know them like the back of yer hand.
