hey guys i need a bit of help my fiesta mk5 1.3 heating is crap changed the thermostat and the heater valve and still it goes warm and cold took car for a long run and got home and undid the water bottle top and it wasnt hot just warm and ideas wat can be the problem

gunked up heater matrix or maybe blocked with ice? Has it got plenty of anti freeze in it?

 

You should not be able to undo the header tank when hot (Without being scalded anyway) When was the last time the coolant was changed? If uncertain then you want to be flushing and changing, especially due to the weather conditions now upon us!

I guess it does not overheat at all?

thanks guys but iv ran the car disconnected the return hose to the header tank and let it run out and did it a few times as the water was a orange colour we seem to think it is the heating system behind the dash instead maybe blocked with crap etc ....... it will boil but only if u leave it for like 15 mins running on tick over then the fan kicks in lol the coolant is renewed everytime i drop the water and iv done it 4 times in the last month lol but still no heating

 

You can flush the heater matrix then?

You could try some wynns rad flush, just leave it in for 200 miles, that's what I do prior to any change of coolant, all the crap in the system will form as a congealed mass in the expansion tank which will of course then need cleaning out, but if anything is going to work this will, failing that undo matrix and leave the matrix/pipes filled with strong bleach overnight.

it cant be the heater matrix coz the water is running around the engine and when you turn the dial in the car it goes to cold when turned to cold and warm ish wen to hot :S

Yes the exact thing a blocked heater matrix would do? The rest of the cooling system is independant.

Thanks guys done the job now it was a blocked heater matrix it was full of like a orange horrible colour gunk got heat from it now but i will be dropping the water againa and making sure it is perfect ...... the car aint got a temperature gauge its the black dials with no rev counter its a pain in the arse lol do you know if i can fit a rev counter and where would it connect 2

 

Before you drain the coolant again, run some rad flush through it, as that will help shift any stubborn deposits. Make sure you use the correct quantity of antifreeze too, as it contains a rust inhibitor which will stop it sludging up again in the future.

If you undo very slowly you can to release the pressure, but it's not advisable, pretty pointless post as you don't have anything constructive to say!

Yes and he undone normally and nothing happened which lead me onto say you should not be able to undo (Without being scalded) which is FACT, You are the fool for coming on here and saying it can be done is, not that the OP listened anyway but being pedantic yes you can do it if you release the pressure first, it's still a stupid thing to do even so and is why Haynes etc have warnings stipulating this.

Don't try and change the subject, the subject in question is removing radiator/expansion tank caps on a hot engine, something you think is good practice!

Read what the OP said about being able to remove when hot and my response, "You should not be able to remove the cap when hot without being scaled" This is a FACT and there is no debate!

However as I have said and as you know it can be done by gently releasing the pressure and BEING careful I.E not simply removing the cap, even so it still isn't good practice.

Your comment "Yes you can" suggests you are arguing against my valid point to which I have responded!
