gunked up heater matrix or maybe blocked with ice? Has it got plenty of anti freeze in it?

You should not be able to undo the header tank when hot (Without being scalded anyway) When was the last time the coolant was changed? If uncertain then you want to be flushing and changing, especially due to the weather conditions now upon us!

I guess it does not overheat at all?

thanks guys but iv ran the car disconnected the return hose to the header tank and let it run out and did it a few times as the water was a orange colour we seem to think it is the heating system behind the dash instead maybe blocked with crap etc ....... it will boil but only if u leave it for like 15 mins running on tick over then the fan kicks in lol the coolant is renewed everytime i drop the water and iv done it 4 times in the last month lol but still no heating

You could try some wynns rad flush, just leave it in for 200 miles, that's what I do prior to any change of coolant, all the crap in the system will form as a congealed mass in the expansion tank which will of course then need cleaning out, but if anything is going to work this will, failing that undo matrix and leave the matrix/pipes filled with strong bleach overnight.

Yes the exact thing a blocked heater matrix would do? The rest of the cooling system is independant.

Before you drain the coolant again, run some rad flush through it, as that will help shift any stubborn deposits. Make sure you use the correct quantity of antifreeze too, as it contains a rust inhibitor which will stop it sludging up again in the future.

If you undo very slowly you can to release the pressure, but it's not advisable, pretty pointless post as you don't have anything constructive to say!

On another note glad I could help and it's sorted.

You said that you can't remove a header tank cap without getting scalded, when everyone knows, aslong as you're careful, you can.

Yes and he undone normally and nothing happened which lead me onto say you should not be able to undo (Without being scalded) which is FACT, You are the fool for coming on here and saying it can be done is, not that the OP listened anyway but being pedantic yes you can do it if you release the pressure first, it's still a stupid thing to do even so and is why Haynes etc have warnings stipulating this.

"You should not being able to remove the cap when hot without being scalded" is right and I'm not going back on myself, your the tool who jumps on threads with nothing constructive to say, at the end of the day I knew the answer to the problem YOU didn't whilst giving dangerous advise in the process.

I am not going to back down from this and the more attention it gets the more foolish I am going to make you look when more people start looking at this.

Lol, you couldn't make me look foolish if you tried, your poor grammar makes you look foolish though.

Dry your eyes though mate, no need to cry that you were wrong at first.

I spelt being instead of be, wow! By looking at your posts amongst the spelling mistakes you have made the grammar you use is not in even in the English dictionary, so talk about the pot calling the kettle black, which just about sums up your intelligence really, I have to much to do than go through perfecting my spelling when replying to you.

Don't try and change the subject, the subject in question is removing radiator/expansion tank caps on a hot engine, something you think is good practice!

Crying haha I don't think so, I have been on here much longer than you, I have nothing to prove to people, a fair bunch people know me on here for who I am, and unlike you have something to back my knowledge up with, you on the other hand have been here five minutes and try and nit pick peoples posts as you have nothing better to say!

Because this is a perfect example of exemplary use of the English language.

I love winding up people when I'm bored, makes me laugh how worked up people get over the internet.

I am not getting wound up, I could say the same with you replying, but what does annoy me is people who give dangerous information then try and skate round it when corrected!

BTW thats also extremely sad if your have to resort to "Wind people" up on the internet to get your kicks!

I haven't skated round anything, you said it couldn't be done, when everyone knows that it can...

See you're still getting your knickers in a twist though.

Read what the OP said about being able to remove when hot and my response, "You should not be able to remove the cap when hot without being scaled" This is a FACT and there is no debate!

However as I have said and as you know it can be done by gently releasing the pressure and BEING careful I.E not simply removing the cap, even so it still isn't good practice.

Your comment "Yes you can" suggests you are arguing against my valid point to which I have responded!
