Hi guys
i was driving home last week when my focus died
it didnt give any warning just cut out, towed the car home and checked usual things
i wasnt getting a spark at all to all 4 plugs
i swapped the coil from my mothers focus, still no spark so i checked all my fuses, all ok, i checked the plug to the coil with a multi meter, i was getting constant power through 1 of the 2 earths to the coil with just the ignition on.
i did the same test on my mothers focus and the 2 earths are not giving any reading until the engine is started
i swapped the crank sensors over and still the same
i checked the earths through the engine bay to the ecu to see if they had rubbed on the body or something, all are fine
tested them straight from the ecu and the test was the same 1 earth giving a 12v reading with just ignition on

its a 1.8 ghia s-reg 1998

im looking for some advise before i send the ecu away for testing

i dont know much about ecu's or electrics im just comparing 2 cars,
1 that runs fine and 1 that doesnt start lol

any help on this would be great before i check the web for costly ecu testers

Have you plugged it in with a cheap hand held ECU reader? Cheaper than sending away!http://www.lonelec.co.uk/index.php?m...&products_id=8

 

yeah sorry i plugged 1 in and it gave 2 codes p0351 and p0352 primary/secondary coil curcuit malfunction..
i tried another coil pack but it didnt work.
im getting pemanent earth from the ecu to the coil.
ive tested the coil multiplug on another focus and i only get earth from the ecu when its cranked over.

 

call a good mobile electrician. hell sort it within the hour and save you time and money in the long run
