xflow cam question
on a 1600 XR2 xflow engine with standard pistons will a Burton fast road cam with
.385" lift
286/278deg duration
109deg TIMING
.016/.016" CLEARANCE
fit with standard pistons.
or would i be better going for a 375" lift
what sort of power increase/noise difference will this give me over standard cam?
cheers Matt.

is this the bcf3 kent cam? just did a rebuild on my brothers engine with this cam, he has power output of around 150-160 but had other mods obviously been bored out to 1670 so diff pistons so not sure about your standard piston question but think it would be ok aint a mechanic but cant see there being a problem? This cam very lumpy on idle but if clearances set right there is no tappet noise if this what you mean. it is a good start for power

It could touch, valves/pistons, esp with tired springs at high revs, needs checking.
To get best from this cam ideally you need a a decent size carb, a excellent cam is the mk1 mexico spec cam, or BCF2, you can also use the old A series cosworth cam profile, longer duration but lower lift so fits easier but due to overlap emissions are high.
The x flow and xr2(mk1) engine are different and parts are NOT interchangeable, x flow is rwd and valencia is fwd, basically a shorter version of the kent, but very few parts fit each other.
A decent head, exhaust, carb, with a 244(mexico) profile or BCF2 will see you around 115bhp easily.

its an Aldon blue printed XR2 engine, its going in the mk1
its done 600 miles and sat for 20 something years. i stripped it down to clean it up and am rebuilding it
its got a stage one head, and a webber 34 DATR so should be a solid 100bhp. was just wondering if the cam would do much, but after speaking to the person at burton i dont think its worth it.
