Default A Stab In The Dark - Toyota Hilux Surf 3.0TD KZN130 Engine Oil

Just not long bought myself a 3.0TD Hilux Surf and am wanting to do an oil change on it. Does anybody have any experience with these? I am looking for advice on which oil to use...

On the viscous fan cowl, it has both 5-30 and 10-30 in amongst an array of Japanese symbols. My Japanese isn't up to standard to understand the sentence though!

Having tried to look for info on the net 10-40 seems to be the oil to use.

If anybody has any info on this i'd like to hear...

Cheers
Scott

P.S. I'm thinking along the lines of using 5-30/5-40 just now.

TBH mate, I dont think it will matter between any of those.

How many miles has it done? if its a highish miles one then I would tend towards the 10w40 option

It has done 92000 miles so not too high for a '94...

Just found a tech data sheet on roughtrax4x4.com that is recommending 10w30/10w40 too, so may go for the 10w40 as you mentioned. According to this sheet too, it takes a good 7.5 litres with new oil filter, nice...

i worked on 1 for a freind and the found that the block was cracked. It seams to be a common problem as good blocks fetch big money. Thats the only experience I have had with one.

10/40 mate, thats all i ever used in mine when i owned one.

Superb trucks and with mine being a fresh import from Japan it was like brand new underneath !! Not the slightest sign of rust and was still on its original exhaust !

Bulletproof engine's as well and a piece of piss to change the timing belt when its due.

I have heard that is a common problem but just one of these things... Think it's more of a problem with the 2.4 diesels as opposed to the 3.0 diesel that I have, could be wrong though, will learn more about them as time goes on.

Sounds like mine, it has been in the country 5 years but is still fresh as a daisy!

Good to hear, I was told the timing belt was done not too long ago but with no history I am going to do this in the near future just for piece of mind...
