Default Cosworth YB and Turbo query

Hi all.

I'm new (ish) to the site so please be gentle!

I'm currently installing a Cossie YB and turbo into my brothers kitcar. We're running an Omex 600, replacing dizzy with coil packs, Pace dry sump and 440cc high impedence injectors. Other than that all is standard.

My query is with the turbo. Due to heavy space restrictions i've bought a 4x4 exhaust manifold for my standard T3 turbo. Firstly i'm assuming both the t3 and t34 have the same mounting and i can utilise this manifold? Secondly, when looking at the turbo and how it will sit on the manifold, the main tube on the front housing which connects to the intercooler is pointing directly at the side of the block, and therefore will not be able to get a hose on it. With the turbo in situ can the front housing be removed and remounted but moved 90 degrees clockwise? or more? to create access to the take off. Also, the actuator fouls the chassis. Providing the rod remains the same length and the arm the rod is connected to is not moved from its current position, can the actuator be adjusted to a modified mount to give clearance?

Finally, re the dry sump. I need to tap the sump pan for the drain down for the turbo. On a dry sump application can this be the same set up as on the standard car, i.e. the oil drain down line just feeds to the sump, or in my case the new sump pan?

I'm sure i'll have a million other questions as i go, but for now i look forward to your comments.

Regards,

Scott.

for that pipe to be facing the block you must have the turbo fitted to the manifold the wrong way, here a pic to show how it should fit.

The mounting face on the standard manifold in your picture is at a 45 deg angle towards the engine. The manifold i have from Burtons the mounting face is flat, if anything maybe tilted 10-15 deg away from the engine. Meaning when the turbo is mounted the whole unit sits about a quarter turn anticlockwise to your pic and therefore the take off pipe that points down in your picture on my set up now points towards the block. So with this in mind, can the front housing be rotated round to allow clearence for the take off pipe? The actuator bracket needs modifying anyway for clearence issues.

Below is a pic i found on the web of the manifold i have, just mine is clean!!

Yes you can simply loosen the bolts and rotate the housing to get where you want on the compressor side.
