Cool Incontinent Cosworth

Heeeeeeeeelllllllllpppppp

Has anyone ever come across this before, you drive your Cossie day in day out no worries, no signs of water leaks or head gasket problems, you park it in the garage after a day out then 1 2 3 4 5 hours go by and all of a sudden it starts dropping its water from somewhere around the engine area but no sign of from where

Last night I went out hour after hour and nothing, then when she was stone cold after about 5 hours of not running out comes its water but never when im watching and as stupid as it sounds no sign of from where!

Any ideas guys

Cheers Jase

Mine done this when I first got it. It turn out to be the radiator.

Someone had put rad weld in it and when it cooled down and stood for a bit it leaked out.

Then when running and got warm it sealed up again.

Check your radiator and your water pump at the front, thats were my money is

Im trying mate but as odd as it sounds theres no drips anywhere, gotta be coming from the motor given the position on the floor, maybe water pump...... or possibly thermo gasket god knows

hi jase, it could be a water pump by sound of it. Have you got compreesed air available? Put a piece of cloth around the expansion tap (obviously remove the tap) and try to blow a bit of air in the tank, holding the cloth around the exit. Hopefully you'll be able to see were it is coming from

Im gonna try that next, its got to be an expansion and contraction thing as it only does it when the motor is stone cold this morning ive put some clean dry card under it in the hope of locating a drip with any luck I should have a general area to search by the time I get home tonight

mine always gets little leaks every now and then to piss me off seems to always be hose clips need re tightening never found a real leak yet just small traces and little drips / puddles on the floor u need to put a presure tester on it when its cold and then leave it till it drips!

Right it seems to be the water pump, at least im 99% sure it is but hey what can ya do? So off to the bay I went to get on and sure enough its anywhere between £30 and £135 for new ones, so can anyone throw some light on why I shouldnt buy a brand new one at £30 and not a gen Ford at £100+

As always, your advise is greatly appreciated.

Jase I'll go for a Ford original, I've seen imitations go bust after a few years. It's not worth the hasle. Just think about it, if it packs in while you'll nailing the car. Not a very nice thought.
