hello all my ford cougar has blown its ecu & i am struggling to find out if i can fit any used one from the same year. its a 2.5 v6 auto reg 2000. i can not workout if i only need the ecu or the matching key & or if i need the steering ring as well? any ideas anybody?

thanks tabetha however they can only help if i get the car to them. the problem i have is a have a mobile mechanic who has taken out the ecu & now isnt able to find out if we can put any ecu from the same year & i dont want to spend money on one that wont work. as i am getting conflicting info saying the part number has to be exact & if i need the transponder & key as well

 

I'm not sure on your model, but on mondy the pats is seperate , the ring is of no consequence which one it is, it just receives a code like a aerial, what is a mechanic doing doing this job if he doesn't know what he is doing ?
Maybe there is a cougar OC that could help ?

cheers but i am stuck with the mechanic till he sorts the job out. i have ordered a new ecu & we will see how that goes
