hey folks, just a quick check,
im doing a clutch on saturday on a 2.0TDCi mondeo estate.
u just wanted to know if there are any special tools i might need to aquire or any thing i should keep my eye open for?

You doing the DMF and the release bearing at the same time? Would be foolish not to!

You don't have to remove the starter - but if the DMF has worn, it would be worth taking the starter off and making sure there's no swarf in it.

what does DMF stand for?
i will be replacing the clutch, releasbearing starter motor and flywheel all in one hit.

ah right, sorry im not used to these abbriviations every uses.
its not costing me, im doing it for a freind of a friend who has e-mailed me a list of the parts he wants replacing.
he is supplying all the parts and its making me a bit of pocket money.
i have done one on a petrol focus but just wanted to check there wernt any special tools i needed to get hold of before i started working on it.

is there a way round using the tool? i never found i needed on one the focus when i took the sub frame of that...

I wouldn't worry too much about locating pins, but clearly mark around the bolts to get them in exactly the right place.

You can get the 'box out by dropping the subframe on one side and lowering it on the other a good few turns.

You might also find it easier to get the balljoint out of the hub carrier after you've lowered the subframe a bit. Not tried it that way myself (just used a big fuck off pry bar) but it's meant to be easier that way.

brilliant thanks very much for your help and advise, i shall take the whole sub frame off as will be doing the work on a set of axle stands on a couple of pallets
