my speedo has been bobbing up and down all week and today finally gave up the ghost , got a new one just wondered how hard they are to fit? cheers in advance , mark.
Easy m8,
remove upper and lower s/wheel shrouds
remove black part of dash(part that goes round the clocks
remove clocks
unclip cable from behind clocks
pull out from engine bay(2 grommets)
from under
remove circlip from g/box and pull free
remove from car
fitting is the reverse
should take 15 mins

It could also be the plastic gear in the gearbox that worn, mine bobbed up and down for ages then gave up the ghost. Fitted a new cable (Not that easy unless you can jack the car very high, its right in the middle of the car) and it still bobs around... Apparatly the gear is £3 but you need to drop the box a little to fit it. Still dont think its that big a job though. To much for me however

Has anyone got a pic of this circlip???
I'm just fitting a new cable (as old one was broke at gearbox end). I am obviosly missing this circlip but not sure if I am missing any other parts.
I will post a pic up to show what I mean.

The bolts got nothing to do with the circlip, the circlip is inside a groove on the inside of the opening where the cable (in your case the broken off bit which is sticking out) comes out, look inside the opening and you will see it.
Thanks steve.
I was looking at it from the wrong perspective, I didn't know that bit sticking out was part of the old cable (I thought it was part of the gearbox!)
Got the circlip off and have fitted the new cable so hopefully everything should be fine, cann't test it till I sort another niggle out first.
Thanks
Stew
