Default Hhhheeeeellllpppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey all, T reg Mondy ST24, 149k on the clock, only had it couple of weeks an so far been perfect!

coming home just now, suddenly noticed that the temp gauge had risen more than normal, an within like 2 minutes it had gone OVER the red and saw a trail of water as i parked up, had a look an it was boiling over! so popped the bonnet and it was bubbling a good'en!!! its now left to cool down an the water bottle is slowly lowering again!?!?!?!?!

am i looking at head gasket? engines been running smooth as anything, no mucj in the oil, level has always been on max (ish) the few times ive checked!

no not properly, its all too hot at the mo, but what i did notice that was very strange is that it was overflowing from somewhere on the header tank (if thats what its called) but NOT, NOT from the cap???? it looks like it was coming from behind the bottle somewhere, near the rear bracket that holds it to the wing??? have got pics of where abouts if that helps???

sounds like the header tanks split for a start. check your fan switch this happend to one of my cars and it ended up being the fan switch. if not obviously the usuall test to see if headgasket is ok.

i would dry every thing off and put newspaper down under engain bay fill back up with water and look for drips or and sign off leaking. if none found turn on and wait for fans to come on while looking at temp gauge if not kicking in at usall temp you not theres somet wrong.

looking at the swelling of the to little pipes going to the headder tank and the fact that you said you was driving along when it over heated i would be tempted to say that there mite be somethink bit more a miss than the fan switch

Right............

temp gauge went sky high again, even though the fan kicked in here:

it then within few minutes went to here:

even with the fan still running!!??!!??

what i did notice is that when i put the fan on hottest setting, it only blew out cold air??? and that under the bonnet, the top 2 pipes going into the header tank were extremely hot yet the engine was touchable? water level started to raise slowly, and the radiators also cold????
(see vid)

The Mondeo V6 is reknown for breaking the plastic impellar on the water pump, this could have gone, meaning the water will not circulate around the engine properly. Get the engine checked properly before running it again, the least that could happen is the headgasket going, with the worst being the engine being scrap due to warping. If it is the water pump get a metal one and change the thermostat at the same time, over heating tends to take them out as well. Saying all that though make sure it isn't just a broken auxillary belt as well, could be that simple, fingers crossed for you.

Oh and if the airbag light is flashing four times it will be the yellow plug under one of the seats, take them out and clean then connections, then cable tie them back together. Before undoing them disconnect the battery for half and hour to discharge the SRS system.

On the right hand side of the engine, just a little belt that runs the water pump, not the huge belt that is on the left hand side.

first thing i have changed when i bought both my V6 mondys, is the water pump to metal impellar, and a brand new water pump belt from ford. mine VERY rarely goes past the N on normal on the temperature gauge.

as for having no mayo on the oil filler cap, header tank cap, and dipstick, they very rarely do when the headgasket goes on the 2.5 V6.

yeah this is what i was worried about as read a few people saying it doesnt always give a sign i.e mayo/sludge!!
luckily when i looked, the belt was just hanging there! think ill replace it an get the waterpump changed asap!!

get the water pump from your local partco, tell them you want the metal impellar one, its about £47, and a new water pump belt from ford is about £10, as said, ive bought both either the same day, or the day after, i bought both my V6 mondys. for the sake of £57, and a half hour job, if for nothing else, you have peice of mind.
