Hi Again folks,
I have another question about my newly aquired ford escort soft top. It is a 'G' reg and I have a question re gear selection. It is difficult to engage 5th gear and reverse gear, all other gears are fine. This happens cold or warm. Any Ideas?

the mk4s used to suffer with gearbox issues as doubtfull its the selector or a poss clutch

 

Many moons ago when I worked at a Ford dealer in the mid 80's early 90's this was a common problem when a box or clutch had been changed. We would put the vehicle on a lift, select 5th gear and then loosen the 10mm nut and bolt on the gear linkage and then re-tighten. 7 out of 10 times it would cure the problem.
