Default cat heat shield missing on st170

I have an annoying rattle coming from underneath my car, I found out from st170.co.uk that it is likely to be the cat heat shield, but when I looked underneath the car it is not there! I don't know how long it's been like this, I've only had the car a couple of months. Is this going to be a problem? It's right next to the sump but the oil temp gauge seems to be normal when driving around.
Also, where could the rattle be coming from? It sounds like it's near the front of the car but i couldn't find it.

There are heat shields right through the car, so could be worth checking them all. On my old st170 they were replaced when I bought it, and within a few months they started rattling so ripped them off!

Yeh I checked all the way underneath the car and can't see any where that it is loose. I've tryed 'twanging' (lol) it and i can't find anywhere that seems like it would be vibrating. I'll take another look cos the noise is very annoying.
So it's ok to run without heatshields? This wont cause any problems?

Well I took mine off and never had a problem in the year I had the car!
