power steering problem on galaxy

Default power steering problem on galaxy

hi im thinking of buying a galaxy tdi off a friend but there is a problem with the steering ,when turning steering left to right theres a loud noise comin from under the car ,it sounds like steel on steel ,my friend says it the suspenion leg tops but i think its eighter the rack of pump ,but when driving it dosnt seem to make that noise, but i think because its not under as much strain ,anyone got any answers are they a big job to do as well cheers karl

I have exactly the same problem. A local mechanic told me that this is a typical fault on these cars, and that it is the belt tensioner, so should not be too pricey. I'm taking mine in to him over the next few days, so if it is what he says it is, I'll try and remember to let you know the outcome!

i have one and had the same problem ,i bought it cheap because of it ,all i did was change the belt and the tensioner and all sorted ,belt £12 and tensioner was a good second hand one off ebay £25,i have bought the top mounts ebay £10 a pair

year dependant, check the one way clutch on the alternator

mine has started juddering again the clutch on the alternator siezed soild

changed one tonight just the same, now sorted, got another to do at weekend lol

just ordered the clutch and spline socket so hopefully all will be good
