Question water pump

car 2wd sierra sapphire cossie, went out today, after doing oil/filter/coolant change yesterday, also fitted header tank and swirl pot, went a run brake kickback from peddle stopped but slight judder when hot, so could be warped, came back coolant dripping on ground, bad drip, looks to be from pulley bearing on pump, this is a cast pump, i take it there is the usual little hole in body of pump to show shaft seal gone? if so is there a difference between 2wd and 4wd pumps as it has a cast iron block 4x4 and 2wd parts, i dont know which is which,so how do i know what pump is fitted and does anyone on here sell them?

4wd pump MUCH deeper and will not go in a 2wd block, 2wd are cast so if leaking needs changing now, bit of bad luck could of done this before the change!!
As you guessed there is a small hole, so if water coming out there it is washing the inner race bearing grease out also.

tabetha, i am told it has 4x4 steel block, or rs500 block he couldnt remember which, i am left to figure out which parts were changed and which werent during upgrade from 408hp to 480hp also had high comp pistons fitted instead of lows, something was done to the t4 turbo to bring down the power range a bit as full boost used to come in late on, now its more usable, my mate owned it but he was hand it in and do the work type of person rather than knowing what was done to it,
is there a way of identifying the block etc, it has 2wd thermostat housing but as for the water pump i dont know, i can remove pump and measure impeller depth?? would you know from that which one is fitted?
cheers

Just look on the side of the block, if it's 4wd it will have 200 stamped, if 2wd it will have 205 stamped, if it really is a RS500 block which I doubt, it will have very small core plugs, and would be worth a lot of money to the purists.
What kind of boost you running ?, do you have any power printouts, these will give a clue about the engine + turbo spec.
I have a water pump to hand from a 2wd so can confirm if it is 2wd no problem.

hi tabetha
it runs, 12 psi on 1st stage,(button on dash) 19psi 2nd stage
there sre a couple of print outs on dyno runs at set up, but to be honest i dont know what im looking at, my mate bought it from brodie brittain in 1989 its an f reg they had just finished doing a power upgrade and it was 408 then, my mate then paid 6000 to put it to 480, inc hybrid turbo high comp pistons and was told it is now good for 700 bhp due to the block fitted, thats as far as he can remember,,will check for numbers on turbo/block/pump
and get back to you
thanks for now

as you've got a 2wd thermostat housing fitted, it'll be a 2wd water pump (similarly, a 4x4 thermostat housing requires a 4x4 water pump)

i was told it had half of a t3 and half t4? you saying it isnt, this raises a few questions for me, when my mate showed me the car when i bought it from him, this was 4 years after it had been upgraded,it had laid in his garage since he got it back, it was a different colour! the magenta now looks like plum coloured it is a darker shade, the best bit, he did not ask them to paint the car, only roll the arches and touch up any damage done to arches by that, and he was not charged for respray! so this has always bugged me, what the hell made them paint a whole car and not charge for it, only charged £60 or so to touch up arches,
the power is certainly there and i will try and put on the power read outs on here,
i used to do minor jobs on the car for him, way back when he first got it, he actually let me run it around for 2 years as he never used it, hence when i got the chance to buy it i jumped at it, many memories in that car for us and my family.
could it be that it has t3 air side and t4 exhaust side this would give higher boost quicker would it not, as the lag used to be terrible, the power comes in lower down now, i wish i had more paperwork for this car, if i had known the garage had changed the colour back when he got it, i would have phoned the garage myself, but my mate never even noticed, as long as it went when he went out for a blast he was happy,
